Browser Monster Index
How we check
Our checker is a real Chrome browser running on a server in London. It identifies itself as BrowserMonsterIndex in its user agent, so site owners can see it in their logs. It uses the same tracker list and detection code as the Browser Monster extension.
Three visits, each in a fresh browser
1. Just arriving. We load the homepage and touch nothing. Anything from an ad or data company that loads now has loaded before you could say no.
2. Clicking reject. We click the cookie banner’s reject option on its first screen. Then we watch which tracking companies still make requests.
3. Clicking accept. We accept, scroll the page like a reader, and record every tracking company, plus how many ad-industry “partners” the banner asked you to accept (IAB TCF vendors).
The grade
Every site starts at 100 and loses points for what we saw. A is 90 or more, B 75+, C 60+, D 45+, and below that F. The same rules power the grades in the extension.
| What we saw | Points | When |
|---|---|---|
| Tracking companies that follow you across sites (4 points each, up to 40) | −40 | After accepting |
| Ad or cross-site trackers loaded before you could make a choice | −20 | Before any click |
| Tracking companies still seen after clicking reject | −20 | After rejecting |
| No free reject option on the first screen, or saying no costs money | −10 | Before any click |
| Third-party scripts fingerprinting the device (canvas, WebGL, audio, fonts) | −15 | Any visit |
| Session recording that captures clicks and typing | −10 | Any visit |
| Data brokers present | −10 | After accepting |
What we don’t claim
These are observations from one location at one time. Ads differ between visits, sites change, and some requests after rejecting may be strictly necessary services. A flag such as “still seen after rejecting” is a reason to look closer, not proof that a site broke the law.
Quick checks look at the homepage only. Some sites block automated checks; we say so rather than guess.
Your privacy
When you search, we store the website name and our result. Nothing about you: no account, no IP address, no cookies and no ad tracking on this site.
