Browser Monster

Browser Monster is a free Chrome extension that shows the trackers on every page, where they send data, what a cookie banner asked someone to agree to, and the advertising profile that adds up to. The work happens on the device. Browsing is not uploaded, and this website runs no third-party scripts.

The Index

The Browser Monster Index is a public check of popular websites, run from London, using the same tracker list as the extension. It is open data under CC BY-NC 4.0. The dataset and API are on the data page.

How a site is graded

A real Chrome browser opens the homepage three times, each in a fresh profile. First it touches nothing. Then it clicks reject. Then it clicks accept. Every site starts at 100 and loses points for what was seen. A is 90 or above, B is 75 or above, C is 60 or above, D is 45 or above, and anything lower is F. The full rules are on how we check.

What the Index shows

These counts are read from the published Index when the page loads (newest check 27 Oct 2026). They are not typed in by hand. The after-reject share uses only the sites where reject could be clicked, not all 471 sites in the Index.

This is not proof that any site broke the law. The Information Commissioner’s Office reviews cookie compliance in its own way, including by writing to site owners. Our check is different: one automated visit from London, recorded before a choice, after reject and after accept. Some requests after reject can be security or other services that do not need consent. A flag is a reason to look closer.

Right of reply. If you publish a site we checked and something looks wrong, email hello@browsermonster.com. We’ll re-check it, and we can add your statement to that site’s page.
